Where the results come from.

We combine the profile you confirm with Australian occupation and labour-market data. This page separates the source data from the scores we calculate.

Source information

Occupation and labour-market context

CareerValue currently uses the final comprehensive ANZSCO-based Jobs and Skills Australia occupation layer together with Australian earnings, hours, vacancy indicators, shortage information, worker-mobility information and mapped training data where available. Jobs and Skills Australia has now begun publishing OSCA-based occupation profiles, while stating that ANZSCO occupation data will not be updated again.

As at September 2026, the available OSCA occupation download is initially based on 2021 Census data. Jobs and Skills Australia says a more comprehensive OSCA suite, including Labour Force Survey and employment-projection data, is planned for November 2026. Because CareerValue's ranking currently relies on fields that are not yet all present in that OSCA release, we are keeping the latest complete ANZSCO layer temporarily rather than mixing classifications or silently dropping evidence. The migration is being built as a versioned data change, not a label swap.

ABS has also published OSCA correspondence tables between OSCA and ANZSCO. CareerValue will use those correspondences to preserve historical mobility/training context where a defensible mapping exists, while marking one-to-many or changed occupations rather than pretending every code maps perfectly.

Where CareerValue transforms a source field — for example annualising an earnings figure — the result is presented as a comparison aid rather than a guaranteed salary.

The exact source definition and release date for each labour-market field is being verified against the ingestion files before broad public launch. Until that inventory is complete, CareerValue describes the vacancy field as an indicator rather than claiming it is a count of every open job.

Paid live-job pages use a separate current job-search feed supplied by the configured provider, currently supporting Careerjet or Adzuna. Those advertisements are not CareerValue estimates; clicking a listing redirects to the source advertisement.

Commercial relationships are kept outside the recommendation score. If CareerValue uses an affiliate or referral link for training or human career services, it is labelled as a partner link and does not change career rankings, training-pathway order or fit scores.

Calculated by CareerValue

Scores are for comparison.

CareerValue uses résumé/profile evidence together with labour-market and transition signals to rank options. Fit, opportunity, scenario and transition scores are designed to help compare careers; they do not represent a probability of being hired, legal eligibility, guaranteed salary or future demand.

The ranking is deliberately not based on salary alone and is not limited to the occupation most similar to your current job. CareerValue can keep broader options when the transferable evidence or observed worker mobility is strong enough, then shows transition difficulty so discovery does not become a claim that every move is easy.

Scenario Lab only re-ranks occupations already supported by the saved analysis. Changing a priority does not manufacture a new occupation or override mandatory licensing, registration or training requirements.

Before acting

Check the current market.

Occupation-level data can be broader than a specific vacancy. CareerValue therefore encourages users to inspect current job advertisements and verify requirements directly with employers, regulators and training providers before paying for training or changing careers.

CareerValue is decision support. It is not an employment guarantee, recruitment decision, licensing authority, registered training organisation or financial adviser.
